Which rotation fixes your video?
| What you need | Choose | Result for a 1920 × 1080 source |
|---|---|---|
| Turn right | 90° clockwise | 1080 × 1920 |
| Turn left | 270° clockwise | 1080 × 1920 |
| Turn upside down | 180° | 1920 × 1080 |
A left turn and a right turn both swap width and height, but move the top of the picture in opposite directions. In the marked 90° sample below, the green top-left marker moves to the top-right.
Fix orientation in three steps
- Play the source and decide which way the picture must turn.
- Upload the original, select 90°, 180° or 270°, and process it once.
- Download and reopen the MP4 in the app that will receive it. Check readable text, the subject’s direction and any audio.
A phone video looks right in one app but wrong in another
Some phone recordings carry an orientation tag. Players can interpret that tag differently, and the processor may apply the existing orientation before your selected rotation. Keep the original, inspect the output and choose the direction from what you actually see. Repeatedly rotating an already rotated export adds unnecessary encoding generations.
Rotation changes orientation, not framing. Use Crop Video to remove edges, or Resize Video for a new canvas. Read the full orientation guide for the phone-tag and quality checks.
Where is the 90° left option?
Choose 270° clockwise. It produces the same final direction as a 90° counterclockwise turn.
Is rotating a video lossless?
This tool rotates the picture and re-encodes video to H.264 MP4. It is not a metadata-only edit, so file size and quality can change.
Does it mirror text?
A 90° or 270° rotation turns the picture; it is not a mirror operation. Use the marked sample to check the direction.

The green “TOP LEFT” and amber “BOTTOM RIGHT” markers make direction visible. This original, silent four-second chart is physically rotated clockwise, not just given a playback tag.

Check direction, then check playback
The upper-left marker moves to the upper-right. A 180° rotation keeps width and height unchanged; 90° and 270° swap them. Mediaivo re-encodes the pixels to H.264 MP4, so this is not a lossless metadata-only edit. Phone videos with existing orientation tags can behave differently; preview your own result.
To change the frame shape instead, choose Crop Video to remove edges or Resize Video to fit the full picture with padding.

How to Rotate a Video Left, Right or Upside Down
Choose the correct direction once, keep the source and check how the rotated MP4 plays in the app that will receive it.
