For a right turn choose 90° clockwise; for a left turn choose 270° clockwise; for an upside-down video choose 180°. A quarter-turn swaps width and height. Mediaivo rotates the actual picture and exports a new MP4.

270° clockwise is the same final direction as 90° counterclockwise. You do not need three separate exports. Choose 270° once to avoid unnecessary encoding passes.
How to rotate and check the result
- Play the original. Decide which way the subject must turn to look upright.
- Upload to Rotate Video. Select the required rotation, then process the file.
- Download and reopen the MP4. Use the intended phone, player or publishing application.
- Check picture and sound. Text should be readable, the subject upright, and any audio should remain synchronized.
Why phone videos can be confusing
A phone can store landscape pixels with a tag telling players to display them vertically. One player may honor that tag while another behaves differently. The processor can also apply a source orientation before the rotation you selected, so a width-and-height number alone may not tell the full story.
If the output turns too far, return to the original and reassess the direction using its visible playback. Do not repeatedly rotate the exported copy. Check available stream and orientation information with Metadata Viewer, but let actual playback in the destination confirm the result.
Rotation is different from cropping or mirroring
A rotation turns the entire picture. A crop removes edges. A mirror reverses left and right. Use Crop Video when composition is wrong, or Resize Video to fit a new canvas with padding. A horizontal clip does not become a well-composed vertical shot merely because its width and height swap.
What happens to quality?
Mediaivo re-encodes the video to H.264 MP4 and encodes audio when present. This is not a lossless tag-only change. Size can increase or decrease; keep the original for future edits and inspect fine text, motion and gradients in the new copy.
The marked example below uses a silent 640 × 360 source. At 90° clockwise its top-left marker moves to the top-right and the output becomes 360 × 640. Download both files or run the sample in the tool. See FFmpeg’s transpose filter for the underlying operation.

Can I rotate left with this tool?
Yes. Select 270° clockwise for a single left quarter-turn.
Does 180° swap width and height?
No. A half-turn keeps the same canvas dimensions; 90° and 270° swap them for an untagged source.
Should I remove orientation metadata first?
Do not strip tags blindly. Keep the original and inspect how it plays, because the tag may be needed to display it correctly.

The green “TOP LEFT” and amber “BOTTOM RIGHT” markers make direction visible. This original, silent four-second chart is physically rotated clockwise, not just given a playback tag.

Check direction, then check playback
The upper-left marker moves to the upper-right. A 180° rotation keeps width and height unchanged; 90° and 270° swap them.
