Resize Video
Set the output width and height in pixels. Mediaivo keeps the whole picture in proportion and adds black padding when the source and canvas shapes differ.

Video dimensions use even pixel counts. Odd values are rounded down to the nearest even number; the picture is fitted inside the canvas with padding.

Choose the canvas, then decide what to keep
Use Width and Height for the final canvas. Resize Video fits the complete source inside it. It does not automatically crop around a face, stretch the picture or remove bars already baked into your source.
| Shape | Width × height | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Portrait 9:16 | 1080 × 1920 or 720 × 1280 | Landscape footage gets padding above and below. |
| Square 1:1 | 1080 × 1080 or 720 × 720 | A landscape source keeps its side edges, with padding. |
| Landscape 16:9 | 1920 × 1080 or 1280 × 720 | Portrait footage gets padding at the sides. |
Want the frame filled without black bars?
Use Crop Video first if you can remove edges. For a 1920 × 1080 source, a centered square uses crop width 1080, height 1080, X offset 420 and Y offset 0. This removes 420 pixels from each side. Keep Resize Video when all the original content must stay visible.
The example below fits a 1280 × 720 source inside a 360 × 640 canvas. The output dimensions are correct even though the picture does not occupy every pixel: the remaining area is intentional padding.
Settings and checks
- Read your source dimensions with Metadata Viewer.
- Enter the desired canvas dimensions. Width supports 16–7680 pixels and height 16–4320; odd values round down to even values.
- Process the video and download the MP4. Check the complete frame, captions and sound.
- If the shape is correct but the file is too large, make a delivery copy with Compress Video.
Why are there black bars after resizing?
The source and destination have different aspect ratios. Padding keeps every edge visible without distortion. Crop instead if filling the frame matters more than preserving those edges.
Will 720p become sharper if I resize it to 1080p?
The canvas becomes larger, but resizing cannot recover detail that was never recorded. Use the smallest dimensions that meet the destination’s needs.
Why did an odd pixel value change?
The video processor uses even dimensions for this encoding path. For example, 721 × 1281 becomes a 720 × 1280 canvas.

The complete 16:9 frame is fitted inside a 360 × 640 portrait canvas. Black bars are expected above and below; the image is not stretched.
