Convert VTT to SRT
- Choose your .vtt file, or download the WebVTT sample below.
- Set the output format to SRT and choose Convert subtitles.
- Download the .srt file and check it with the video in your destination player.
For example, 00:00:01.250 becomes 00:00:01,250. The cue still begins at the same moment. The WEBVTT header is removed and cues are numbered.
Convert SRT to VTT
- Choose your .srt file and set the output format to VTT.
- Convert and download the .vtt file.
- Check the captions in the website or player that will use them.
The output starts with WEBVTT and uses a dot before milliseconds. Conversion does not translate subtitles, transcribe a video or correct captions that were already out of sync.
File limits and formatting
Use a UTF-8 SRT or WebVTT text file, up to 2 MB per file on both Free and Pro. Cue text is retained, including accented characters. WebVTT NOTE, STYLE and REGION blocks are omitted; positioning settings are omitted when exporting SRT. Advanced formatting can display differently in different players.
Each cue needs a supported start and end timestamp, and its end must be later than its start. If conversion fails, check those timings and confirm that the file contains captions rather than HTML or a renamed video.
For the full workflow, read how to convert SRT and WebVTT subtitles. The two-cue example below lets you compare timing and text before using your own captions.
SRT to VTT and VTT to SRT: a two-cue example
Download either original demo file, choose it in the converter above and select the other format. The expected output contains the same two cues, at 1.250–3.500 seconds and 4.000–6.750 seconds.

- Both cues should keep their start and end times.
- The accented characters in “Café — déjà vu?” should remain readable.
- WebVTT starts with WEBVTT and uses a period before milliseconds; SRT uses a comma.
Short WebVTT times such as 00:01.250 are expanded to 00:00:01,250 for SRT. This tool converts text and timing syntax; it does not translate dialogue or correct subtitles that are out of sync. NOTE, STYLE and REGION blocks are omitted, and SRT output omits cue-position settings. Advanced styling, voice labels and inline timestamp tags may need manual cleanup in your subtitle editor.
Read the SRT/VTT conversion guide and playback checklist. The W3C WebVTT specification defines the WebVTT header, cues and timestamps.
